Boudicca Research:
Boudicca was the Queen of the Celtic Iceni tribe. When her husband (Prasutagus) died, the land was left to the Romans and his daughters. However, the Romans attitudes had changed towards the Celts. They took their property and Boudicca was whipped.
In 60 AD, Gaius Suctonis Paullinus had become the leader of the Roman army. When he was away, Boudicca and the tribe rebelled. When Paullinus had heard about what had happened, he went to Londinium (London). Boudicca and the tribe had succeeded and torched Londinium. They continued to attack by going to Verulamium and Camulodunujm. They had killed more than 70,000 people.
The Battle of Walting Street left Boudicca being defeated. Even though the Romans were outnumbered, Boudicca couldn't control the tribe. No one is certain on how Boudicca died. Some say that she didn't want to be a slave to the Romans so she drank poison. Others says that she died from an illness.
I believe that this research has been useful because I am now starting to learn more about who she was and what she was fighting for. This research is going to be helpful so I can start to think about narratives and what characters I would like to design for my story.
